NT Scan

NT Scan

In the first trimester, all pregnant women are given a screening test to determine the likelihood of their baby having an abnormal chromosomal disorder such as Down’s syndrome or Edward’s syndrome; An NT scan is often used in conjunction with a blood test as part of prenatal screening to help determine the risk to the infant.

Why Is It Done?

Nuchal translucency is abbreviated as NT (NT). The nasal bone and the accumulation of fluid under the skin behind the baby’s neck will be measured using nuchal translucency. In early pregnancy, the fluid is a natural part of the baby’s growth in the womb. The aim of an NT scan is to determine the thickness of this fluid array. Increased levels can suggest fetal abnormalities.
